Agg, Pop, Sex = I love abbreviating

So I stole this idea from: http://psych.ucsc.edu/dreams/Findings/weldon.html because I was jealous of his graph. I went through all my dreams, in subsets of 200, and I coded each dream with an aggresion, pop culture or sexuality in them (one per dream, so even if I kill 15 people at different times, that's 1 aggression).

So you know exactly what I coded:
Aggression: forms of aggression include murder, hurting someone, chasing (in a non-friendly way), rejecting, being rude, having angry thoughts etc.
Pop Culture: includes celebrities appearing or being mentioned, songs, movies or TV shows, games, books, magazines.
Sexuality: includes non-platonic kissing, fondling of genitals, sexual intercourse, having sexual thoughts, reference to sexual activity, masturbation

Agg, Pop, Sex - the first 3200 dreams

Aggression:

General trend: It's kind of all over the place, although it seems to be increasing. It's quite low compared to the results of the content analysis, where my physical aggression was 90% (that would only be the first subset though).

It does seem to follow Pop Culture most of the time, which is kind of strange. Although this may also be due to the fact that I watch a lot of sci-fi and action. For example, when I dream of shows like 24, Dexter, Supernatural etc, they are mostly 'violent' dreams.

Most aggression comes from being chased and people breaking in. I get a bit OTT violent and go on random killing sprees sometimes. For example, some guy was lurking about, so I stabbed him in the chest and in the eye with the handle of a broomstick, then casually went inside and played on my computer.

Individual points of interest: Eh. We got broken into in June 2007, so I thought aggression would've gone up a bit, but oddly, it decreased. Not really sure what was going on in early 2009 to cause that huge spike.

Pop Culture:

General trend: It's definitely increasing. I've always been into movies and TV shows, but the last few years I struggled with a very annoying TV show addiction. I dream about video games sometimes, but not too often.

Most of the pop culture comes from celebrities appearing often (see FFCCP), or from me watching TV shows in the dreams.

Individual points of interest: Near the end of 2008, I started watching Red Dwarf, Supernatural, Freaks and Geeks, One Tree Hill and rewatched and caught up with Lost. The first lot was in August/September. Lost was in November.

That last set in 2009, with the huge spike was kind of surprising. Most of that, embarrassingly enough, comes from Dawson's Creek. That was kind of annoying, because Dawson's Creek is really lame and I didn't really want to dream about it, but I dreamt about it like 2-3 times a night. Supernatural and other shows that I like a lot also came back then.

Sexuality:

General trend: I was so excited at first to see that it barely moved from the bottom of the graph. For some odd reason, it's increased *ahem* a bit.

Although most people assume every time someone has a dream that sex is involved, it's very rare to have sexual dreams. This isn't only from the research that I've read, but from personal experience. My percentage is slightly higher than the norms for females. Remember that these norms include all the above subcategories of sex (not just intercourse!). The norm for females is 4%, and for males it's 12%. As a side note, intercourse accounts for around 26% of sexuality dreams in both females and males.

On to my dreams... sex is rare. Very rare. Actually doing the act in the dream is extremely, ultra rare. Seriously. In those 3200 dreams, there are 237 sexual dreams and I think in around 10, I actually remember doing it in the dream. Most of the time, it's like *fade to black* or it's implied. Most of the sexuality dreams though, come from kissing. Usually if I become lucid, I get excited and grab the guy I like and start making out with him. Then I lose lucidity (lol).

Individual points of interest: Well I was 12 when I started this. So, really, low sexuality is expected. The sudden increase at the end of 2008, I have no idea. The first thing I thought just then was, 'Supernatural', but no.

The last subset of 2009's spike is really strange. I can't even recall any sexual dreams and this subset only ended two months ago (as I'm writing this now, on 1 March 2010). I didn't really start watching anything interesting. There was a bit from Dawson's Creek (mainly Joey and Pacey wanting to, but not doing it etc). Actually, I do remember that the last set did have a lot of other people having sex.
